What exactly is New Style JSA?


New Style JSA is money given to you to assist you meet your living expenses while you hunt for work. The amount you might get is determined on your age.


It is calculated using your National Insurance (NI) payments from the previous two years. It may be claimed alone or in conjunction with Universal Credit.


If you currently receive contribution-based or income-based JSA, you may keep doing so for as long as you are eligible.


Is New Style JSA available to me?


To be eligible for the New Style JSA, you must be:


Unemployed or working less than 16 hours per week under State Pension age and actively seeking job


How can I apply for New Style JSA?


You may get New Style JSA in one of two ways:

To file an online claim, go to GOV.UK.

You will be interviewed by your local Jobcentre Plus later in the application process. You may call them ahead of time if you want assistance due to a disability or health condition.


You might also bring a cousin or friend to your interview for moral support.


Your advisor will draft a Jobseeker's Agreement (also known as a 'claimant commitment') during the interview. In it, you'll outline the sort of employment you're looking for and agree on the actions you'll take to locate it.
