Part time positions near me

You Don't Have to Be in Technology to Get a High-Paying Part-Time Job.

Employees in the United States are seeking more part-time and flexible employment, and companies are responding. According to a 2015 Workplace Trends research, several companies, including Amazon, reported investing in flexible work alternatives this year.

However, IT employees are not the only ones who may get these attractive part-time jobs. FlexJobs, a freelancer and employer marketplace, has listed ten high-paying positions for people looking for part-time employment. While hours are cut, wages begin at $50 per hour.

These are the positions:

Operations manager

Jazz music teacher

Dentist curriculum writer

Clinical pharmacist Supervisor Software developer

Financial advisor

Attorney for government contracts

Developer of mobile applications

Each of these professional-level professions requires extensive expertise or education and would pay six figures if the individual worked full-time.

Other FlexJobs study found that the sectors with the most freelance work are getting increasingly diversified. They currently encompass employment in computer and information technology, as well as administrative, accounting and finance, customer service, medical and health, and education and training.

"Part-time employment is commonly associated with less professional, lower earning positions, but as this list shows, that isn't always the case," said Sara Sutton Fell, founder and CEO of FlexJobs. "The prospects for high-paying part-time work span sectors and vocations while maintaining competitive compensation."

Part-time employment has been more popular in recent years, and businesses in highly competitive recruitment markets have had to become more inventive with the flexible working choices they provide.

Amazon, for its part, recently launched a 30-hour workweek initiative in which chosen workers would be able to spend 16 of those hours at the office (between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Monday through Thursday) while making up the remainder on their own time. These workers will continue to get full-time benefits, but just 75% of their wage.

Though employees are requesting more flexible and part-time work, there has been considerable debate over whether part-time jobs provide them greater flexibility or need the same output in less time.

"The person who completes five days of work in four days should be praised, not penalized," Douglas Rushkoff, author of Throwing Rocks at Google Bus, recently told Fast Company. "However, it only works if management considers its workers to be a part of the organization... "You don't have to take their money and give it to the stockholders," he argues.

Such agreements are also frequently seen as a sign of the elimination of secure, full-time work, which has pushed many people to juggle a number of side occupations in order to earn the equivalent of a full-time pay. According to a 2015 research by the Freelancers Union and online freelancing platform Upwork (FU/U), over one-third of American employees (roughly 54 million) conducted some freelance work in the previous year. This indicates an increase of 700,000 freelancers over the previous year.

"We're a generation that's accustomed to juggling projects and interests, and after graduation, 'part-time' is a terrific opportunity to test the waters of multiple career pathways," said Kelsey Manning in a Fast Company essay in 2014. Manning demonstrates that in the new economy, juggling numerous tasks at once is sometimes the only way to make ends meet. "Full-time, full-salary positions are hard to come by, and—have you heard?—we're in debt," she said, explaining how she spends her days juggling four part-time and freelance jobs.

The decline in full-time work prospects has placed many people in hazardous professional (and financial) situations. According to Contently's "State of Freelancing in 2015" study, the typical salary was between $10,001 and $20,000 per year, with slightly over 19 percent earning more than $50,000 in the previous 12 months. Juggling several, low-paying occupations may become a thing of the past if part-time flexible employment options on the upper end of the compensation range in a larger variety of sectors continue to trend upward.
