How long should you wait before following up on a job offer?

If you haven't heard back from an employer after a week or two, you should contact the recruiting manager. Following up may reflect your commitment and interest in the position. Hiring managers might spend a substantial amount of time processing all applicants, conducting interviews, doing background checks, contacting references, and preparing formal job offer documentation. Wait at least a week following an interview before contacting them, and consider giving them more time for popular jobs.

If the hiring manager provides you a time period for hearing back, stick to it by waiting until the upper limit they specified. For example, if the recruiting manager says they will contact you by the end of the week, don't contact them again until the following Monday. Consider sending an email instead of phoning to politely remind them of your enthusiasm for the job without coming off as pushy.
