How to Find Good Jobs on the Internet

1. Make use of networking


I'll start by adding that I understand not everyone has a solid network on which they can depend. It's fine. But you should speak to and use everyone you do know. You should also develop new connections/relationships to help in your job hunt.




Rule 1: Inform EVERYONE that you are looking for work.


The first guideline of job search networking is to inform individuals that you are looking for employment. Nobody can assist you until you tell them.


I once got a job interview at a top IT firm in Boston by telling my hairdresser I was looking for work.


What occurred? Earlier in the week, a recruiting manager had dropped off his business card in case the barber discovers any fresh grads looking for work. I brought it up, he handed me the card, and the rest is history.


Rule 2: Always make an effort to get introduced to a company.


Consider anybody in your current network (past colleagues, classmates, friends and family, etc.) who works at or has links to firms where you could be interested in working.


Approach them and inquire if the organization is recruiting. Explain why you believed the firm might be a good match for you and ask if they have any suggestions for how you could approach them.


It's better to ask in this manner rather than simply request a large favor... unless you are really close to the person you are speaking with (like a sibling, best friend, parent, etc.)


Why is it always preferable to be introduced to a company?


You will have a far better chance of securing an interview if you can be presented directly to a firm or hiring manager. You may even bypass the interview with a recruiter or HR and go straight to the hiring manager.


So, wherever possible, get introduced to a firm. This is much more efficient and successful than applying online or using other "cold" approach approaches.


As a result, networking will always be one of the finest ways to locate employment and one of the first places you should look.


2. Apply to Targeted Companies Directly Online


You should spend some time researching organizations that match what you want to accomplish with your career and applying directly through email or their "Careers" website.


This covers both firms that are recruiting and those that are not.




Your chances of hearing back from a firm that doesn't seem to be recruiting are lower, but if they do respond and show interest in your history, you'll have almost no competition.


So strive for a mix of 70 percent hiring organizations and 30 percent companies that don't seem to be hiring or don't have a position that matches your background posted on their website.


Companies May Interview You Even If No Job Is Posted:


They were going to post a related position shortly, and you happened to catch them at the appropriate moment (you'd be surprised how much luck goes into a job hunt). This is very possible) They are rapidly expanding and are looking for skilled individuals in general. Many early-stage organizations are constantly searching for ambitious candidates, and if you go out of your way to contact them even if they don't have a position advertised, you'll attract their attention!

What Should You Include in Your Email/Application:


If you apply to these firms in any way, be sure to mention why they piqued your interest in your cover letter or email.


"I'm looking for work," isn't enough. You must demonstrate to a corporation why you want THEIR job. As a result, you must demonstrate:


You've done your homework and know a little bit about them.

You know what you want to accomplish next in your career, and their organization seems to be a good match. Make sure those two elements are included in your cover letters or emails when you submit your CV.


Pro tip: This is also crucial while preparing for job interviews. Always be able to explain why you applied for the position and what you're searching for. If not, you are unlikely to get hired.


Remember to "tailor" your CV for each employer. This increases the likelihood of receiving a response by 3-5 times.


This strategy is one of the greatest methods to obtain a job online if you follow these instructions, do your homework, and don't hurry.


3. Use LinkedIn's online "Easy Apply" feature.


While technique #2 needs rigorous study and selecting firms to apply to, method #3 works by increasing the quantity of applications you send out.




This is one of my personal favorites and has been quite effective for job searchers over the last two years, but you shouldn't rely only on it to get a job online.


You should balance this with more deliberate, focused job searching via your network and applying to firms you know and like.


Even if you don't have a network, LinkedIn Easy Apply remains one of the finest methods to locate jobs online.


The primary purpose of this strategy is to get your CV in front of as many firms as possible so you can start having talks as soon as possible.


The fundamental concept is that you utilize LinkedIn to look for jobs by keyword, area, and so on.


Then you apply straight via LinkedIn, which removes the need for a cover letter and saves you TONS of time since you don't have to establish login/passwords for several job sites or fill out personal information like name and address, etc.


Simply search for positions that interest you, attach your CV, and click "send." This method allows you to submit a large number of applications while also scheduling job interviews rapidly.


Do not rely only on this. However, it is one of the finest strategies to locate work and get in front of more employers. And it will almost certainly get you employed.


4. Make use of job search engines to find companies that are hiring.


Except for LinkedIn Easy Apply, I don't encourage mass-applying to online job vacancies (mentioned above in step 3).


However, job search sites remain one of the finest methods to locate work since they can tell you which organizations are hiring.


Some even enable you to establish personalized job search alerts and get information about new job posts, ensuring that you don't miss out on your ideal job if one becomes available.

As you can see, these job search techniques are intertwined, and you should approach your job search as a whole, rather than as individual strategies.


Job searchers, for example, should examine job postings but always check their network first before applying directly. They should use job notifications and job search tools, but should also contact a firm with a more personal approach once a new job vacancy is spotted.


5. Contact a Staffing or Recruitment Firm


A staffing or recruiting service may also help job seekers find work.


It should be noted that recruiters are better equipped to assist applicants with previous experience.


If you are an entry-level applicant, you should visit job fairs.


However, for experienced job seekers, recruiters may be a valuable secondary source of hearing about job openings, being introduced to hiring managers, and securing more interviews in their job hunt.


I mention "secondary method" of obtaining employment online since you should not depend just on recruiters. They will give you employment chances on occasion, but they work for the businesses.


Recruiters assist businesses in finding qualified candidates. They do not assist individuals in finding work. That's a significant distinction. I go into further detail about how recruiters function here.


As a former recruiter, I have the following recommendations for job seekers:


You should speak with recruiters and allow them go to work for you, but don't anticipate much. Then it's a great surprise if they respond with a few job advertisements or interviews.


When a recruiter claims they'll start finding you fresh employment chances, don't stop networking, searching at job boards and job search sites, or conducting your own job hunt.


Because they say this to hundreds of applicants and will only assist you if it helps them (here's how recruiters earn money and why helping you may profit them).


It is still your job hunt, and if you want to get a job online, you must perform the majority of the effort.


It's also worth noting that staffing and recruitment services may help you locate temporary work if you're trapped and can't find a permanent position. Some businesses manage temporary, contract-based positions. Others focus on putting job seekers in full-time, permanent positions.
