Take care of the problem
If you lack experience, don't attempt to ignore it. A cover letter is the ideal location to fill any holes in your CV, so take advantage of the chance to address any issues the company may have. Then...
Concentrate on what you DO have.
Experience is vital, but so is your work attitude, personality, grasp of the firm and its activities, motivation, resilience, future plans - the list goes on and on, so don't get too caught up on any one element.
Discover skills you didn't realize you had.
Make certain that this is accurate before deciding you don't have the experience. Consider your previous work and make connections between the experience you need and the experience you already have. Remember: it doesn't have to be identical; the crucial word to remember is relevant. If you've ever organized a meeting or answered the phone, you have administrative experience. Marketing is when you put up a Facebook page or make a flyer. Consider thinking beyond the box!
Make some experience.
Participate in some volunteer work, job experience, or an internship.
However, as previously said, ensure that the experience you are receiving is useful. If you're just starting out, don't squander time on irrelevant tasks, particularly if it's unpaid!
Show your determination.
Make sure that others are aware of your desire to enter a certain sector. Participate in relevant industry conversations on LinkedIn, join relevant groups, attend networking and professional events, and make your excitement known.
Network
If you lack the required amount of expertise, you must be trustworthy. Make connections and ask your contacts to suggest you. Employers are more willing to overlook a gap in your experience if you get a referral from someone they respect. Learn more about successful networking.
Speculative application
If you just apply for posted positions, you will be evaluated based on predetermined criteria. Apply speculatively to firms that interest you, demonstrating that you've done your homework, and asking whether there are any prospects for you to break into the sector. Whether the answer is negative, ask if you may apply again in 6 months and what you can do to enhance your chances in the interim.
Obtain an interview
At the very least, concentrate on securing an interview. This is unquestionably the finest position in which to confront your lack of expertise and pitch your other skills. Remember that your ability to execute the job is just one criterion the interviewer considers, along with your passion and fit with the corporate culture. Ace all of them, and who knows... two out of three could enough!
