Working Time Regulations (WTR) limit the maximum number of hours worked

Working Time Regulations govern the maximum number of hours that adults and young employees (aged 16 to 18) may work.


There are unique restrictions that apply to young people who work part-time while attending school and are under the official school leaving age.


Young employees aged 16 to 17 are unlikely to work:


greater than eight hours per day or forty hours per week There is no way to opt out of this, as there is for adults between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. Certain types of work have exclusions. For further information, see GOV.UK.

Remember that you must continue to study until the age of 18, such as via an apprenticeship.


Young employees have the following rights:


a 30-minute rest interval after working 412 hours 12 unbroken hours off every 24 hour period worked two days off per seven-day period holidays Full-time employees are entitled to at least 28 days of paid vacation each year; employers may provide more. This holiday entitlement covers bank holidays.
