Engineer in machine learning
This discipline of artificial intelligence is perfect for students who like computer science and want to work in a fast-paced, fascinating sector.
Big data is used by machine learning experts to construct complicated algorithms, which are then used to teach a machine (such as a self-driving vehicle or digital voice assistant) to execute and carry out activities like a person. Economic forecasting, picture recognition, and natural language processing are all used to allow the computer to learn and develop without the need for human intervention.
What level of education do you require? A strong foundation in artificial intelligence and/or computer science is required, as is a master's degree. Both the MSc in Artificial Intelligence and the MSc in Computational and Applied Mathematics at Wits University offer cutting-edge curricula in which students gain an in-depth understanding of data visualization, natural language technology, and computational intelligence in order to analyze problems and create meaningful solutions.
Designer of User Experience
UX (User eXperience) designers are concerned with the 'behind-the-scenes' design of ensuring that software, websites, or applications match the habits, motivations, behaviors, and demands of users. As more companies resort to digital platforms to advertise and sell their goods or services, it's never been more critical to ensuring the customer journey and experience is as good as it can be.
What level of education do you require? A suitable undergraduate degree, such as computer science, is required, and a postgraduate degree is preferred. Professional experience is also required.
Engineer in robotics
As technology advances, robotics engineers must continually examine, reassess, configure, test, and maintain the prototypes, robotic components, integrated softwares, and machines they develop for the manufacturing, mining, and automotive service sectors, among others. It is a highly technical profession that needs patience and sensible thought.
Over the next several years, we're going to witness a slew of new and imaginative ways in which contemporary technology aid society and industry - notably in healthcare.
What level of education do you require? A master's degree in robotics or computer science will provide you with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience to break into the profession of robotics engineering.
Scientist of data
Data science positions, dubbed the "sexiest job of the twenty-first century," aren't as fresh and developing as other tech careers like cloud computing engineers (more on these later), or machine learning engineers, but they're still the hidden treasure inside any organization and will continue to be.
The need for trained specialists is increasing as companies and organizations acquire and utilize more data every day. Data scientists are responsible for collecting, processing, analyzing, and presenting data for an organization in order for it to make better informed choices, with possibilities to work in nearly every area and business, from IT to entertainment, manufacturing to healthcare.
In June of this year, for example, six undergraduate students from Wits University's School of Computer Science and Applied Mathematics (CSAM) and School of Electrical and Information Engineering (EIE) competed in a virtual event for the ISC Student Cluster Competition alongside 82 other students from around the world.
They were entrusted with testing and improving many programs now utilized by scientists and researchers in the real-time study of COVID-19 data and the global warming consequences. The judges also assigned two extra complex coding tasks to students to see whether they could effectively adapt to the fast-changing realm of artificial intelligence.
What level of education do you require? A thorough grasp of data science and analytics is required to stand out in the area of data science. Wits University's relevant postgraduate degree in computational and applied mathematics, data science, or e-science increases students' data-driven knowledge and technological skill sets.
Engineer for the cloud
Cloud computing has become a must-have for individuals who work remotely in recent months. Simultaneously, firms have been hurriedly employing employees with the requisite skills and experience to move processes, deploy infrastructure, and conduct cloud-related jobs.
Cloud engineers are often referred to as solutions architects, cloud developers, and sysops engineers. The tasks and responsibilities of a cloud engineer will differ in certain cases, but the general duty of a cloud engineer is to design, monitor, and administer an organization's cloud system, such as Google Cloud, Microsoft 365, and Slack, to name a few.
What level of education do you require? A postgraduate degree, like with many of today's IT jobs, is nearly always necessary, coupled with related professional experience. Students pursuing an MSc in Computer Science at Wits University may choose from electives such as high performance computing and scientific data management, robots, adaptive computation and machine learning, multi-agent systems, and human computer interaction, among others.
