Jobs 9-2

What exactly is professional success?

There is a significant distinction between achievement and success. Many individuals have done things. They get competitive qualifications, land high-profile employment, develop desirable professions, and earn top-tier salaries and incomes. These are a few examples of the criteria by which many people in society measure job success. However, these items—degrees, professional titles, attractive occupations, and high pay—represent achievements. The issue here is that achievements alone may not always equal to professional success.

Career success consists of reaching a respectable amount of financial security while performing something you like, as well as discovering that you are happy and pleased with your life and career choices. Career success is lessened if you like your work but it does not lead to financial self-sufficiency, and professional success is diminished if you are well compensated but lack pleasure or enthusiasm in your chosen career sector. True job success requires congruence between the two.

People who have achieved real job success understand that money and titles aren't everything. They understand that for it to really matter, they must also have inner serenity and pleasure. If you are highly compensated and have a profession that others aspire to, but your work causes you to be dissatisfied, unsatisfied, and maybe even miserable, you will not feel successful. And if you're happy, content, and thrilled with your chosen employment but can't afford the essentials of life, you're not going to feel successful.
