Can you just promote a job internally? Yes, and it may be faster and less expensive than sorting through hundreds of applications, establishing a recruiting effort, or using an agency.


Managers will be familiar with the people in their organization and will be aware of their talents, experience, and performance. The staff will also be familiar with your organization. They will be acquainted with your organization's structure, methods, processes, systems, equipment, and personnel. This will save you money and time in teaching them about your company.


It also demonstrates to your staff that there are prospects for professional growth and advancement. This will assist in motivating and retaining your organization's best employees.


If you have an employee referral program, it motivates workers to utilize it properly and allows you to realize the benefits.


It does, however, have certain downsides.


You are effectively restricting your pool of applicants to a small number, which may result in you not finding the best candidate for the position.

You may discover that you lack the requisite skills, experience, or credentials for the position. As a result, you have little alternative except to promote outside.


Even if you have internal applicants that are qualified for the position, opening it up to external candidates allows you to attract the best individuals in the market, creates more open competition, and opens the door to a more diverse workforce.


New applicants may offer new perspectives to your company, constructively questioning how it operates.


However, if existing workers perceive they are repeatedly ignored for chances that occur, this might lead to dissatisfaction and have an impact on team morale and dynamics.
