How to Begin Your Job Search

When you've determined it's time to quit your previous employment, you'll need to begin your job hunt. However, before you go into the search, take some time to prepare. Follow the firms that are recruiting for work-from-home positions despite the epidemic.

Refresh Your In-Demand Job Skills

Similarly, it makes sense to investigate which in-demand talents will be most useful in the post-pandemic job market—and then do your best to keep current on them. Job skills varies for each job path, however the following are ones that are becoming more important and respected regardless of your profession:

Emotional intelligence (EQ)

Intelligent automation

Analytical data literacy

Knowledge of technology

Thinking critically

Innovation and creativity

To remain relevant in today's employment market, you don't have to spend a lot of money or earn a whole new degree. There are several free and online courses available to help you build or improve practically any skill.

Examine Your Transferable Skills

If you're thinking about changing careers, you may believe you won't be able to apply for jobs in your new profession. According to the job descriptions, you seem to be lacking in necessary abilities and experience.

However, this may not be the case. Make a skills inventory of yourself and discover all of the transferable abilities you have that you can use to your new employment. It may provide you with the motivation you need to embark on a new professional path.

Employers expect all of their workers to be problem solvers, team players, and communicators. You may not have much project management expertise, but you should be able to break down a major project into smaller parts and communicate with teammates. Learn how to boast about your skills, and you could find that you're more qualified than you believe.

Determine What Would Make You Happy.

Perhaps one of the reasons you want to hunt for a new job is because you are dissatisfied with your present one. But, before you start looking for a new career, consider what it is about your present employment that has made you both happy and dissatisfied, and what you'd want to find in a new position (e.g., the ability to work remotely, a company with a great culture, etc.). Then, based on those criteria, do a fresh job search.

Utilize Your Network

Getting the word out that you're looking for work is an important part of your job search success. Use internet networking to notify your network that you are seeking for new job opportunities—but be cautious about who you contact. After all, you don't want your present employer or colleagues to find out that you're looking for employment before you've found it.

Refresh Your Resume

Before you begin your job hunt, you should update your resume. Hopefully, you've been keeping up with your resume and updating it every 6 to 12 months. Don't worry if you haven't. Begin with the most recent and best (even if it is your present not-so-great employment).

Begin with your great achievements, then go on to the new talents you've acquired. Even if it's been a while since your previous update, upgrading your resume should be a simple once you start thinking about all you've done.

Improve Your LinkedIn Profile

While you're revising your CV, you should also update your LinkedIn profile (or create a new one!). One small tip: don't just put your résumé into LinkedIn. Your CV should be original and personalized to each job application. Because your LinkedIn profile is static, it should be more extensive than your resume.

That doesn't mean your LinkedIn profile can't be as one-of-a-kind as you. You'll have a distinctive LinkedIn profile in no time with an eye-catching header, a unique summary section, and even some recommendations.

Employ a Career Coach

And sometimes you don't know where to begin—or you want impartial evaluation and expert advice. In such scenario, consider engaging a career counselor to assist you in determining your next steps. They won't do the hard work for you (such as finding you a job), but they can advise you on your next professional steps, where you can enhance your CV, and how to prepare for your interview.
