Overview
You may enter or remain in the United Kingdom on a Skilled Worker visa if you have an appropriate employment offer from an authorized company and intend to work for that firm.
The Tier 2 (General) work visa has been superseded by this new visa.
If you or any members of your family are from the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein, you are eligible for this offer.
If you or a member of your family began residing in the United Kingdom before to the 31st of December in 2020, you may be eligible to submit an application to the free EU Settlement Scheme.
For the vast majority of individuals, the application deadline was on June 30th, 2021. You may still submit an application if either:
you have a later deadline to meet; for instance, you're joining a family member in the UK who was residing in the UK as of the 31st of December, 2020.
you have what are known as "reasonable reasons" for not being able to apply by the deadline of June 30, 2021; for instance, you suffered from an illness or were the victim of domestic violence.
If this is not the case, you will need a visa to work in the UK.
Citizens of Ireland are exempt from the need to apply for a visa or participate in the EU Settlement Scheme.

If you're not qualified for a Skilled Worker visa
It's possible that you may get a different kind of visa that would allow you to work in the UK.
How long you are permitted to remain
Your visa may have a validity period of up to 5 years before it has to be renewed. If your visa is about to expire or if you switch employment or employers, you will need to submit an application to have it extended or updated.
If you wish to extend your time in the UK, you may do so.
You are permitted to submit an application to extend the validity of your visa an unlimited number of times so long as you continue to satisfy the conditions for doing so.
After five years, you have the opportunity to submit an application for "indefinite permission to stay," which is another name for "permanent settlement" in the United Kingdom. This grants you the ability to work, study, and reside in this country for as long as you see fit, as well as submit an application for benefits if you are qualified.
How to make use of it
Applying is required to be done online.
The application process differs depending on whether or not you are:
from a location other than the UK who will be visiting the UK
inside the United Kingdom and extending the validity of your existing visa
Inside the United Kingdom and changing from another kind of visa
You are need to submit a new application for your visa if you make a change to your employment status or place of employment.
Your spouse and your children, if they meet the requirements, may be included in your application to remain in the United Kingdom.
How long it takes
You have up to three months before the day you are scheduled to begin working in the UK to submit an application for a visa. This date is included on your certificate of sponsorship that was sent to you.
You will be required to produce evidence of your identification and submit your papers as part of the application process.
If you need to schedule an appointment in order to do this task, you should factor in some more time for it. When you begin the application process, you will be informed whether you are required to submit one.
Getting a decision
After submitting an application for a visa online, proving your identification, and submitting the required papers, you will often get a decision about your visa within the following timeframes:
If you're not from the UK, the wait time is three weeks.
8 weeks, if you're located inside the United Kingdom.
You may be able to pay more to have the decision made more quickly. Whether you are located within or outside of the United Kingdom will determine how you go about doing this.
