Job description
The Office of the Chief Inspector of Taxes, which is part of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners, is where those who work as tax officers and inspectors are employed. Tax inspectors are engaged in the determination of tax responsibilities, advising members of the public with their tax circumstances, individual and business audits, and investigative work aimed at preventing tax evasion. The office is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the different taxes.
The grade of Inspector of Taxes is the highest level that workers are recruited to the inspectorate stream at, and it is from this stream that senior positions are filled.
