School crossing patrol job

School crossing patrols (lollipop people)

We hire people to work as School Crossing Patrols (SCPs), whose primary responsibility it is to assist youngsters in crossing the street safely on their route to and from school. Even in situations when a School Crossing Patrol is available, it is still the parents' responsibility to watch out for the well-being of their children.

Advice for pedestrians

If they are in the authorized location and are working within the permitted hours, SCPs are allowed to assist pedestrians in crossing the road. When crossing with a patrol, pedestrians are reminded to adhere to the following few basic guidelines:

Take a distant stance.

Wait

Pay attention to the direction given by the patrol.

Proceed to cross in front of the guards.

Never ever run or play anywhere near a patrol.

Tips for those who drive on the road

We kindly ask for your attention and help with our SCPs. Their presence ensures that even the most fragile people may navigate our roadways without risk. Kindly keep in mind that:

Place your vehicle a safe distance away from them to ensure that they have an unobstructed view in both directions.

Reduce your speed and be ready to come to a halt.

Follow the directions exactly.

When instructed, bring your car to a full stop and do not move it forward under any circumstances.

Before moving off, you should wait until the Patrol has returned to the pavement.

If you do not stop when a School Crossing Patrol indicates that you should, you are breaking the Road Traffic Act of 1984, which makes it a criminal offense. It is of the utmost importance to us that our patrols maintain their health and safety. If you continue driving without stopping, the police will be called on you. Possible punishments include:

A fine of up to one thousand pounds

There will be a point deduction equal to three.

Disqualification
