Before, during, and after labor, maternity support workers assist midwives and other members of the medical team in providing care for mothers and newborns.
The Work Being Done
It's possible that:
collecting samples of the patient's blood during prenatal checkups
assisting with prenatal education and workshops
assisting members of the family throughout the labor and delivery of a kid
assisting patients by repositioning them on their beds to make them feel more at ease
maintaining a record of the patient's advancement
keeping track of the patient's status and informing the appropriate medical professionals of any shifts in it
assisting patients in taking baths, showers, or washing their own
assisting new mothers in the care of their infants
Pay
Maternity support workers are eligible for a starting salary of between £19,609 and £21,615 per year under the NHS Agenda for Change. If you were promoted, your annual income would increase to between £21,709 and $23,603 after you reached Band 3. The most recent revisions to the wage scale were made in April of 2021.
Conditions
You can find yourself working in a hospital ward, clinic, or birthing center in this line of employment.
You would do your duties while being supervised by a midwife.
You put in work throughout a variety of shifts, some of which include nights, evenings, and weekends.
You are required to dress in a uniform and, at times, protective gear.
Getting In
A solid foundation in the liberal arts is beneficial.
A Modern Apprenticeship in Healthcare Support (Clinical) at SCQF Level 6 is one way to get started in this field.
You could be required to pass an admissions exam.
It would be beneficial if you have previous experience working in a health care environment, whether that experience was paid or unpaid.
It is beneficial to have previous experience either in providing first aid or dealing with other individuals.
Caregiving experience gained at home might be useful when applying for employment outside the house.

What are the Prerequisites?
You need to be:
capable of communicating with persons of various ages and who come from a variety of different cultures
ability to stay cool in challenging circumstances
in a kind and encouraging manner
kind and slow to anger
ability to function well inside a group setting.
Training
On-the-job instruction is provided. You would be working for the SVQ Health Care Support (Clinical) qualification at the SCQF Level 6 level.
You may be eligible to advance to SVQs after you reach the SCQF Level 7 competency level.
You would go through an orientation procedure that is evaluated on an annual basis. Additional training may include breastfeeding assistance, cleanliness and infection control, risk management, child protection, and health and safety.
Getting a Grip
If you have the necessary experience and, more importantly, the appropriate credentials, you may be able to advance to a higher grade within the company, such as a senior maternity support worker.
You would also be encouraged to study toward other credentials such as a Higher National Certificate in Care and Administrative Practice (SCQF Level 7).
If you already have some experience in the field, you can consider enrolling at the University of the West of Scotland to complete the CertHE Maternity Care Assistant (SCQF Level 7) program. It is a course that lasts for a full six months and is completely sponsored by the NHS.
You have the option of working for either the National Health Service or a private enterprise in this field (NHS).
