Requirements for entry

You might require:

5 GCSEs, including English, maths, and science, at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent

For a T level, 4 or 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent, including English and maths


Apprenticeship

The following apprenticeships are relevant to this position:

intermediate or advanced apprenticeship in non-destructive testing

Advanced apprenticeship in composites technology


Requirements for entry

Typically, you'll require:

for an intermediate apprenticeship, some GCSEs, usually containing English and arithmetic, or equivalent

For an advanced apprenticeship, 5 GCSEs at grades 9 to 4 (A* to C) or equivalent, including English and arithmetic


Work

Start as a lab assistant or trainee technician in a testing facility and earn your certification while working.

Employers will look for 4 or 5 GCSEs in math, English, and a science, preferably physics or chemistry. Some employers may require A levels or other equivalent qualifications, such as applied science.

write reports and analyze test results


Working conditions

In a laboratory, a factory, or an office, you may work.

You may be required to wear protective clothing and use protective equipment.
