Health trainers provide their customers with actionable help that they may use toward changing unhealthy behaviors and accomplishing their personal health objectives.
a day at the office
Health trainers assist their clients in evaluating their current lifestyles and levels of wellbeing, establishing goals for the improvement of their health, coming to an agreement on action plans, and providing practical support and information that will assist people in changing the behaviors that are negatively impacting their health. This might involve highlighting the advantages of things like:
doing physical activity on a regular basis and maintaining a healthy diet
decreasing one's use of alcohol
breastfeeding
performing healthy sexual behavior
quitting smoking
You might be any of the following if you work as a fitness trainer:
assisting individuals in recognizing the ways in which the choices they make may be influencing their health
assisting persons in the development of a health plan to assist in the implementation of changes that will enhance their health
assisting persons in increasing their level of understanding about factors that may have an impact on their health and well-being
directing users to many additional organizations and professions
Who will be your collaborators?
Because of your role as a health trainer, you will have an in-depth understanding of the many health concerns that are faced by the community in which you are employed. Clients who need your assistance could be found via preexisting community and support groups, by referral (from a health professional at a children's center, for example), or through self-referral. Your clientele will often come from marginalized communities that are difficult to engage with, such as the homeless, travelers, and those struggling with addiction to drugs, alcohol, or both.
You could spend the majority of your time working one-on-one with clients, but at other times, you might be working with groups of individuals. For instance, you might be leading group sessions on improving one's health and changing undesirable behaviors.
There is also the possibility of health trainers receiving assistance from members of the community who have been taught to play the role of health trainer champions (HTCs are usually volunteers who have undertaken health improvement training at level 2 with the Royal Society of Public Health, and who can help health trainer services to extend their reach within communities).
