If you applied for a job but were not selected for it, you are not alone.
If you have applied for a job but have not been selected for it, you have the option of asking the employer to:
Give me the specific reasons why.
communicate with you any written guidelines, such as a corporate recruitment policy or rules it has on hiring for that position. While companies are not required to have these formal rules, it is in your best interest to ask about them.
provide you with any further input you may have, such as suggestions on how you may have performed more effectively during the job interview.
Your employer is not required to provide you with any of this information. However, it is recommended that they proceed in this manner such that:
You are now aware of what you should do differently when applying for jobs in the future.
They demonstrate their openness by describing the process through which they make these judgments.
If you already do business with them, they will maintain a positive connection with you.
It is possible that you will be able to contest their decision if you think that they are:
violating laws against discrimination, such as the fact that your application was rejected because of your gender or race
not implementing their own rules in a consistent manner; for instance, they have a written policy on how they should conduct a job interview, but they did not follow that policy during your interview.
