Clinical engineer jobs

Entry requirements, skills and interests (clinical engineering)

Either as an undergraduate student or a graduate student, you have the opportunity to join the field of clinical engineering.

Entry requirements

There are two ways that one may enter the field of clinical engineering:

In order to apply for the NHS Practitioner Training Programme, you will require a variety of GCSEs with grades ranging from A to C, in addition to a minimum of two A-levels, one of which must be in a science-related field (PTP). You are need to contact the educational institutions to which you want to submit an application and verify the specific restrictions they have imposed. Make use of our convenient course finder to look into various recognized degrees.

You are eligible to submit an application for a position on the graduate-entry NHS Scientist Training Programme (STP). In order to be considered for this program, you need to have earned a first or a 2.1 in either an undergraduate honors degree or an integrated master's degree in a pure or applied science subject that is pertinent to the specialism for which you are applying.

If you have a bachelor's degree with a grade point average of 2.2 or above in any field, you will be considered for the position even if you have a higher degree* that is not directly related to the specialty for which you are applying

(*Higher degree according to the definition provided on page 17 of The Frameworks for Higher Education Qualifications of UK Degree-Awarding Bodies) Please note this does not include postgraduate degrees or postgraduate certifications.)

It is not feasible to present a comprehensive list of relevant degrees for admittance into the STP since there is such a large amount of variety in the degrees that are now available. For senior technical roles in the physical sciences and biomedical engineering (which also includes clinical engineering), the degrees in pure or applied physics, engineering, or applied mathematics are the ones that are most likely to be recognised as qualifications.

You need to make sure that you have read the job description and person specification for the training that can be found on the website of the National School of Healthcare Science, in addition to the information that can be found on this page. The next thing you need to do is make sure that the content of your degree and the field of expertise that you want to apply for align with the skills and knowledge that are necessary.

Please refer to the person specification that may be found on the website of the National School of Healthcare Science for complete information on the entrance criteria for the STP. These requirements include credentials, scientific abilities, transferrable skills, and physical prerequisites.

Proof of research experience (such as a higher degree or other similar evidence of scientific and academic capacity) is regarded desirable for all applicants. This evidence might take the form of a higher degree.
