If you work for the NHS as a bricklayer, you can be assigned to work on
new constructions
additions made to pre-existing structures
restoring or improving the appearance of existing structures
preservation and repair of historic structures
You are responsible for ensuring that the outside walls of NHS facilities are in excellent condition by doing repairs as needed. In addition to this, you could participate in large building projects that span for many months.
Who will I be collaborating with?
You may be able to work on their own for minor fixes. When working on bigger projects, you will often collaborate with other bricklayers or with other members of the estates crew, such as carpenters, plumbers, tilers, painters and decorators, or electricians. This may be the case even if you are the only bricklayer on the team.
It is possible that you may be required to travel between locations using a vehicle provided by the NHS or your own personal van.
You may also work as a bricklayer for a building and construction firm that provides construction services to the NHS. In this case, your employer would be the NHS.
Entry requirements
The qualifications for becoming a bricklayer are not predetermined in any way. In most cases, they have a reputable vocational certification in the field of building.
GCSEs in English and mathematics are often required in order to begin training as a bricklayer. Construction experience or other types of hands-on job experience may be required by certain employers. Apprenticeships in the field of estates support jobs are common and may give a wealth of expertise if taken advantage of. Investigate the possibility of beginning an apprenticeship.
A valid driver's license is sometimes required for employment.
