The 30 best high-paying jobs of the future

This is an older version of the rating that was previously available. Take a look at the most recent version, which includes employment estimates through the year 2030.

In the recent months, the widespread spread of the coronavirus has had a significant impact on employment levels across practically all sectors of the economy. On the other hand, according to the statistics and estimates provided by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the employment landscape of the future seems to be rather favorable for positions in the medical and technological fields.

Insider has chosen to take a look at high-paying careers that have promising prospects since many people in the United States are looking forward to discovering their next prospective employment opportunity. In order to do this, we used two different datasets that could be found on the website of the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The Employment Projections program of the Bureau of Labor Statistics offers forecasts for the expansion of work opportunities in hundreds of different professions. The most current report provides a comparison of the number of individuals employed in each profession in 2019 with the forecasts made by the Bureau for 2029. According to the BLS, these figures do not take into account the effect that the widespread coronavirus outbreak has had on the labor market.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) has issued two alternative predictions that take into account the effect of the epidemic in order to examine how long-term economic repercussions may influence job growth in a variety of vocations. When making any kind of prediction, it's possible that the estimations won't precisely match what happens over the following ten years, but they may still offer a sense of where there could be some employment growth.

We used the geometric mean of the two numbers to find occupations that are both growing and high-paying. These job growth projections were combined with the latest May 2020 median annual wages for each occupation from the Bureau's Occupational Employment and Wage Statistics program (previously called the Occupational Employment Statistics program).

Because we are interested in high-paying careers, we limited our ranking to those professions having median incomes in 2020 that were more than the median salary across all occupations, which was $41,950.
