What's it like?

Between flights, you would be responsible for loading and unloading the baggage of passengers, as well as moving it about the airport.

You would be in charge of ensuring that all of the luggage and cargo is delivered for in a timely and cautious manner, either so that passengers can retrieve their belongings or so that they can be transferred to the next aircraft.

You would be responsible for ensuring that nothing is misplaced or damaged, as well as that the passengers and aircraft are kept safe and secure.


In such case:

Ensure that the correct things are loaded onto the appropriate aircraft by collecting, classifying, and checking all bags against flight lists.

Move bags from the spaces designated for check-in to the sections reserved for departure.

When transporting baggage to and from the airplane, you may make use of cargo loaders, conveyor belts, and vehicles.

Place your bags on the conveyors that are located in the arrivals hall.

Freight goods should be kept in warehouses until they are ready for distribution.

Transport the cargo and load and unload it from the airplane.

Aircraft de-icing and cleaning services

Ensure that the runways are free of snow and debris throughout the winter months.

You might work as a "lead ramp hand" if you are an experienced handler and are responsible for getting aircraft ready for the following flight. You should also consider providing staff training on any new processes or equipment.

To be able to operate with conveyors and lifting equipment, you will need to have some fundamental mechanical understanding.


Hours

It is expected that you will work on a shift basis, with each shift lasting the standard 39 hours. There is a possibility that shifts might extend up to 12 hours and include nights, weekends, and holidays. There is a possibility that work will be seasonal based on the requirements of the airport.


Environment

You would be required to work both inside (such as at airport terminals and cargo facilities) and outdoors (in all kinds of weather). You could also be required to work in confined quarters, such as the hold of an airplane.
