What are the most in-demand vocations, job opportunities, and trends in terms of recruiting objectives for the years 2019 and 2020, and beyond, all the way up to 2024? Our analysis of data from the Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS) as well as the findings of two more recent studies indicate that careers in healthcare are now in the greatest demand. A little over a third of the occupations that were in demand in 2018 [you can view our study here>>] are among the most competitive occupations to pursue in 2019. It is anticipated that by the year 2020, the demand for professions in the healthcare industry would surpass that of any other field. [For forecasts on the year 2020, see below.]
The most in-demand jobs have switched around a little bit since the last list was compiled, according to a new research that was just published by CTV-News (even though it was based on an internal survey). [1] According to the findings of our very own investigation, which was carried out using the Canadian Occupational Projection System, the significance of the healthcare industry will grow between now and 2024.
Beginning now and continuing until 2024: the top 17 career positions
Our search on the Canadian Occupational Projection System (COPS)[2, which predicts employment demand by position between now and 2024, revealed that the aging population will result in a considerable increase in the need for jobs in the healthcare industry. The top 17 jobs by demand are considerably different according to COPS than they are according to the CTV study (details are below); this is likely due to the dates that each report was compiled (2019-2024 for COPS versus 2019 for CTV report.)
According to COPS, the following will be the top 17 occupations in terms of the amount of job openings available between now and 2024 (with the median pay derived from the Government of Canada Job Bank):

General labourer
Project manager
Manager of client accounts

New jobs that are in demand for 2019: retail is making a comeback?
This year's report includes seven new roles that were not included in the previous year's report: developer, receptionist, cashier, registered nurse, electrical engineer, human resources manager, and merchandiser. At least according to this internal report, these roles are in higher demand than ever before.
The positions of merchandiser and cashier are on the list, despite the fact that there is major fear in the retail sector. Merchandisers are an essential part of the defense that brick-and-mortar merchants need to play in order to keep customers coming into their stores.
In the meantime, when compared to the ranked list from the previous year, the following positions fell out of the top competitive roles (although it is clear that they are still in high demand): engineering project manager, aerospace engineer, IT project manager, software engineer, machine learning engineer, industrial technician, and psychologist. However, it is clear that all of these positions are still in high demand. Due to the fact that diverse experts produced the reports and classifications, we are unable to draw any significant conclusions from the changes; yet, it is fascinating to see the continuing and developing patterns for 2019.
Emerging roles that need your attention and consideration as you prepare.
According to the findings of the survey, there are 10 new career opportunities available in Canada. The vast majority of these are in the field of information technology, with at least half of them needing extensive experience working online:
Developers of the blockchain
Engineers of automated systems
Artificial intelligence researcher
The chief executive officer of experience
Live chat representative
DevOps engineer
Environmental engineer
Expert in computer network security
Data scientist
Architect working in 3D
beyond the year 2020
It should come as no surprise that, as a result of demographic transitions — such as the fact that by the year 2024, one out of every five Canadians will be over the age of 65 — there will be a fundamental shift in the demand for health care careers, particularly:
Registered Nurse
Practical Nurse with a License to Practice
Assistant in Occupational Therapy or Physiotherapy
Psychologist
Pharmacist
Optician who does dispensing
assistants or Technicians in Veterinary Medicine (our pets are aging too.)
